2015-16 BABAK RAHIMI LEAGUE CUP

This tournament format consists of two stages: the group stage followed by the knockout stage. In the group state, teams compete within four groups of four teams each. Each group plays a round-robin tournament, in which each team is scheduled for three matches against other teams in the same group. This means that a total of six matches are played within a group. All League Cup games are played on the 1st Sunday of each month unless it falls on recognized holiday weekend (e.g., New Years). In which case, the games will be played on the following weekend. Points are used to rank the teams within a group. Scoring: Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss.

The knockout stage is a single-elimination tournament in which teams play each other in one-off matches. Due to permit time limitations, there is no extra time. If a game ends in a tie, penalty shootouts will be used to decide the winner, if necessary. This is followed by the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. There is no third place game.

BABAK RAHIMI LEAGUE CUP BACKGROUND
Posted Nov 2, 2015

The BABAK RAHIMI LEAGUE CUP is a soccer tournament administered by the Southern California Futbol Association during the Winter Season.  The format is very similar to the English League FA cup where all the teams in each of the divisions are randomly placed within various groups.  The top two finishers of each group advances directly into knock-out rounds.  League cup games are normally on the first Sunday of every month, unless its a holiday weekend, starting around November and ending in May.  The League Cup is is posthumously dedicated to Babak Rahimi.  Barak played in our soccer league for many years for Bayern, Parsians FC, and most recently LA Persepolis.  He was a good player and a good friend.
